The legs do the work
Splayed tapered legs lift the whole desk off the floor visually, which is why a mid-century piece reads lighter than a panel-sided desk of identical size. In a small room that difference is the reason to choose one.
Solid wood, and what that means here
Most of these are solid wood through the top and frame, often solid wood or a named species, with MDF used for backs and drawer bottoms. The construction line on each product page states the mix rather than leaving you to guess.
Restraint over storage
Mid-century desks tend to carry one or two shallow drawers rather than a pedestal. That is deliberate: the style depends on seeing under the desk. If you need heavy filing, pair one with a separate cabinet rather than looking for a mid-century desk that hides it.
