Square side tables give the most usable top
A square top offers the most surface for its footprint, with room for a lamp, a drink and a book at once. It also lines up neatly with the square arm of a sofa or the corner of a sectional. The 23.6 and 24.8 inch tables are large enough to stand in for a small coffee table beside a chair.
Wood square side table styles
Indoors, the walnut tables are solid wood with open storage below the top, and select walnut models sit on a pedestal base. The 14 inch walnut table is solid pine, a good fit beside a narrow chair. The black table has a 3.1 inch thick top, and the espresso table has a top rated for 396 lb and a bottom shelf rated for 220 lb. Construction: solid wood or solid pine on the walnut tables, solid wood and MDF panels on the black table, and pine veneer over MDF with solid pine legs on the espresso table.
Square outdoor side table
Outdoors, choose solid acacia in a teak or gray finish, acacia on a black iron frame with rope accents, or a concrete-look table in white, tan, gray or light gray. The concrete-look tables are magnesium oxide, weighing 18.4 to 49.4 lb, and the tan and gray tables are rated for 80 lb. The acacia and iron table is rated for 120 lb.
Small square side table placement
For a tight corner, the 14 to 16.3 inch tables leave room to walk past. Leave about 2 inches between the table and the sofa arm, set the front edge in line with the front of the sofa or a little behind it, and keep the top within an inch or two of the arm height.
Wipe wood tops with a damp cloth and use coasters. Rinse outdoor tables with mild soap and water, and bring acacia tables under cover during long wet spells.
