The shelves get deeper as they descend, from 12 inches at the top to 14.5 at the bottom, so the whole piece leans back into the wall very slightly instead of standing dead upright. It is a mid-century trick and it does two things at once: heavy books sit low where the depth is, and the silhouette tapers rather than looming.

Each opening is 13 inches high and 29 wide. Capacity climbs the same way, 55 pounds at the top shelf up to 75 at the base. The frame is solid wood with MDF shelves and a metal understructure, finished white above a pecan base. Tools come with it.
