How are nine drawers arranged?

In three banks of three, side by side, which is why this layout is also called a triple dresser. It is not nine drawers stacked in a column. That arrangement is what lets a nine drawer piece stay at normal dresser height, 30 to 39 inches here, while holding roughly half again as much as a six drawer model of the same height.

Who needs nine drawers?

Two people sharing one bedroom, or one person with no other storage in the room. The practical advantage of three banks is that two people can take a bank each and leave the middle for shared or seasonal items, which is much easier to keep sorted than splitting a six drawer dresser top and bottom. In a room with a wardrobe as well, six drawers is usually enough.

Will one fit your wall?

These are 47 to 63 inches wide, so the largest needs a clear wall run of well over five feet with nothing in the way at either end. Check the doorway too: at 16 to 18 inches deep the carcass passes through a standard door on its side, but measure the diagonal of a 63 inch piece against your hallway turn before ordering. Allow three feet of clearance in front for open drawers.

What are they made from?

This collection is built on metal frames, particleboard and engineered wood rather than solid wood. That is a deliberate trade at this width: a nine drawer carcass is a long span, and a metal frame holds it square more reliably than a soft panel edge does. Finishes include natural wood tones. Construction: engineered wood, particleboard and MDF.

What to check on a wide dresser

Look at the centre support and the drawer slides. A dresser over about four feet wide needs a vertical divider between the drawer banks carrying weight to the floor, or the top will bow over time. Full extension ball bearing slides matter more here than on a narrow chest, because a drawer in a wide carcass is heavier and a partial extension slide leaves the back third unreachable.

How do you remove the drawers?

Pull each drawer to its stop and find the release underneath. Ball bearing slides have a lever on each side rail: press one down and the other up, then draw the drawer free. Take all nine out before moving the piece. A loaded nine drawer dresser is well beyond a two person lift, and empty it is merely awkward.

Anchoring and placement

Fit the anti-tip bracket even though a wide dresser is more stable than a tall chest, because the risk case is a child climbing an open bottom drawer rather than the piece toppling on its own. Fix into a stud rather than drywall. Keep the dresser off an exterior wall in a damp room, since engineered panels swell at the edges if they sit against condensation.
