The check is simple: forearms level with the surface, feet flat on the floor. If the desk is slightly too high, raise the chair and add a footrest rather than working with your shoulders up.

The number people forget is the clearance underneath, which decides whether a tall person gets their legs under the desk at all. A wide center drawer eats into it.

Anchor anything tall to a stud before you load it, since a loaded top shelf pulls the weight forward. What is standard desk height?
Standard desk height is 29 to 30 inches from the floor to the top of the work surface. That range is the norm across office desks, writing desks and computer desks, and it is what standard office chairs are built to pair with. Height-adjustable and standing desks move through a wider range, and each of those listings states its own minimum and maximum.
What is the difference between desk height and counter height?
A desk is 29 to 30 inches tall and a kitchen counter is 36 inches tall, a difference of about 6 inches. Bar height is higher again at roughly 42 inches. The gap matters because seating is built to match: a desk chair adjusts through roughly 17 to 21 inches of seat height, while a counter stool sits at 24 to 26 inches. A counter stool at a desk puts the arms and shoulders too high.
Are dining tables and desks the same height?
Dining tables and desks are close in height but not identical. For two monitors, look for a work surface at least 47 inches wide and 24 inches deep so the screens sit at arm's length. For three, an L-shaped or corner desk gives the width without pushing the desk further into the room. How to anchor bookshelf to wall
A bookcase is anchored by fixing a bracket or strap from the top rail of the case into a wall stud, not into drywall alone. How to adjust office chair
Seat height is set with the lever under the seat on the right: lift it with your weight off the seat to raise, and with your weight on it to lower. Set the seat so your feet are flat and your forearms are level with the desk. Recline tension is usually a knob under the seat front, and the recline lock is a second lever. Are filing cabinets fireproof?
Standard filing cabinets are not fireproof. A filing cabinet is built to hold and organise paper, and its steel body offers no rated fire protection. Fire resistance is a property of a rated safe, which is a different product with an insulated body and a tested rating.
