Twin bed frames, sized 38 by 75 inches

A twin mattress measures 38 by 75 inches, the smallest of the five standard sizes. It is the usual choice for a child moving out of a toddler bed, a bunk or loft setup, a small guest room, or a studio where floor space decides everything.

Trundle, storage and platform

Trundle frames hold a second twin mattress underneath on castors, so one footprint sleeps two. Storage frames use drawers built into the base, which replaces a dresser in a small room. Platform frames sit on slats and need no box spring.

Fitting a twin into a small room

A twin frame usually occupies about 40 by 78 inches once rails and headboard are counted. Against a wall it leaves walking space on one side only, so measure the door swing and check that a trundle has clearance to roll out before ordering one.

Frequently asked questions

How do you choose a bed frame?
Start with whether you already own a box spring. A platform frame carries the mattress on slats and needs none; a traditional frame expects one and sits lower without it. Then check headboard height against your room, and the frame height against how easy you want getting in and out to be.
Do you need a box spring with a bed frame?
Only with frames built for one. A platform frame supports the mattress on close-set slats and a box spring on top of it would raise the bed uncomfortably high. Every frame in this group states which it is on its product page.
What is a platform bed frame?
A platform frame carries the mattress directly on a slatted base, so no box spring is needed. It sits lower than a traditional frame and gives the mattress even support across its whole width.
How do you attach a headboard to a bed frame?
Most frames here arrive with the headboard as part of the build rather than as a separate bolt-on, so it is fitted during assembly. Where a headboard does bolt on, the frame has pre-drilled brackets at the head end and the hardware is in the box.
How do you fix a squeaky bed frame?
A squeak is nearly always a loosened joint rather than a broken one. Re-tighten every bolt in sequence, working around the frame twice, and check the slats are seated in their supports rather than resting on the edge.
What is a bed frame?
A bed frame is the structure that holds the mattress off the floor, usually with a headboard at one end and side rails carrying slats between them. It sets the height of the bed and, with a headboard, most of how the bed looks.
