Solid walnut or walnut finish?

Solid walnut is cut from the wood itself, so the color runs all the way through and a scratch exposes more walnut. A walnut finish is a stain or veneer applied over another wood, which gives the same appearance at lower cost but shows a paler line if the surface is cut deeply.

Caring for a walnut frame
