What is a dresser?

A dresser is a wide, low chest of drawers made for folded clothing, normally set against a bedroom wall at about waist height. It spreads storage sideways rather than upward, which keeps every drawer within easy reach and leaves the top usable as a surface. The dressers here stand 30 to 48 inches high, so the tallest sit closer to chest height and trade reach for floor space.

What size white dresser fits your room?

What are white dressers made from?

Most white dressers are painted or laminated over engineered panels, because an even white finish is easier to achieve on a flat manufactured surface than over open grain. This collection includes solid wood pieces alongside engineered wood, particleboard, plywood and metal frames. Solid wood costs more, holds a screw better and can be sanded back and refinished later. How do you remove dresser drawers?

Pull the drawer out to its stop, then look underneath for the release. Drawers on metal ball bearing slides have a small lever on each side rail: press one down and the other up, then draw the drawer free. Drawers riding on wooden runners usually lift slightly and tilt out. Take the drawers out before moving a dresser, which cuts the carry weight and stops them sliding open on the stairs.

How do you keep a white finish clean?

Wipe white surfaces with a barely damp cloth and dry them straight away, since standing water is what lifts a painted or laminated edge. Avoid bleach and abrasive cream cleaners; both dull a gloss white and yellow a matte one over time. For scuffs, a white melamine sponge used lightly will lift most marks without cutting through the finish.

How does a white dresser work in the room?

White reflects light, so a white dresser makes a small or north facing bedroom read brighter than a dark piece would, and it sits comfortably against almost any wall color, which means it survives a repaint. On top, a lamp at one end, a shallow tray and one framed piece leaning on the wall is enough. A flat white surface shows clutter more plainly than wood grain does.
