Height is the only measurement that matters

Most desks sit 29 to 30 inches from the floor. A cabinet needs to clear that with enough room to open the top drawer, so under about 27 inches is the range to look in. Every product page states the height.

Braked casters, not just casters

A cabinet that rolls also rolls away when you pull a drawer. Most of these have brakes on at least two wheels, which holds the cabinet still while it is open. That is a working requirement rather than a nicety.

The top becomes a surface

Once a pedestal is out from under the desk it is a side table at desk height, which is useful for a printer or for spreading out paperwork. Check the stated top weight if you plan to leave something heavy on it.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know it will fit under my desk?

Measure from the floor to the underside of your desk, then compare against the cabinet height on the product page. Leave an inch or two so the top drawer opens freely.

Do the wheels lock?

On most, two of the casters have brakes. Engage them before opening a drawer, or the cabinet rolls away from you rather than the drawer coming out.

Can I put a printer on top?

Often yes, but check the stated top capacity. A rolling pedestal is less suitable than a fixed cabinet for anything heavy that will live there permanently.

Will the casters damage a wood floor?

Soft casters are designed not to. On an older floor, or if the cabinet will be moved often, a mat or floor protector removes the risk entirely.
