A vertical cabinet is narrow and deep, so it takes a wall or the end of a desk run and files front to back. A lateral cabinet is wide and shallow, files side to side, and doubles as a surface. Vertical fits tight rooms; lateral suits a wall you want to keep low.
Why the anti-tilt interlock matters
